Have somebody a link to a relaxing and calm shaman music site.

Have a hard time finding something to listen to while Im on the zone.

What is "shaman music" anyway, and if such an animal exists, can it ever be "relaxing and calm"?

There are, of course, thousands of performers who add the advertising label "shamanic" to their music, so that they can sell even more to the gullible suckers shopping around for anything shaman. Right now, 69.900 hits for the exact phrase:

Much of music intended for shamanic rituals, is quite often a cacaphony,really!
At least for a while.
And it loosen up things quite good.
But a calming though seducing flute of Pan must be suitable as background- when you are here.

I just bought a cd by Nils-Aslak Valkeapää, he was a shaman in my world.

Cacophony, yes indeed, that is my impression, too. I have often listened to old ethnographic recordings of authentic shamanic rituals in Siberia and other circumpolar areas. These are intensively interesting and exciting sounds! Relaxing? No! No! No! Calm? No way!

I have also read hundreds, if not thousands, of ethnographic descriptions of shamanic rituals, spanning at least 300 years. I cannot remember anyone describing anything as "calm" or "relaxing". If someone can point me to such a description, I will be very much interested. Thank you! (Please, no New Age stuff from the past 40 years!)

Yes, many regard him as some kind of shaman. There is a dissertation you might be interested in, chapter 8 discusses "The poet as shaman":

Exactly what CD is that? I am not aware that any Nils-Aslak Valkeapää CD's were intended by the artist for shamanic rituals. That might (well?) be, however, as I am not up to date regarding the marketing and labeling of his music.

Ethnographers, historians of religion as well as of literature, and ethno-musicologists, agree that joik played an important part in Sami (pre-christian) religious ceremonies. Unfortunately, that was so long ago that no recording instruments existed. Most descriptions come from prejudiced missionaries and clerics, who probably never participated in such ceremonies themselves.

I remember contributing to it, in a small way, by assisting the author in locating ethnographic photographs in museums. I also remember attending his concerts, where the CD was sold. I know I bought it, with his autograph even, but I cannot find it now. Probably I borrowed it to someone who never returned it.

Therefore I would very much like to know where you bought the CD. If it's in Oslo I will go there first thing tomorrow and get myself a new copy, so I can listen to it again. If it's out of town, I will telephone the music store and have it sent.

The store is called Multikulti and is located in Stockholm, Sweden.

When I did research in shamanism in Kautokeino I used to read Nils-Aslaks books while listenig to his music.

I recommend this experience.

I suggest that the people behind the Zone ask some of the shamans to record their music and sell it here on the Zone.

I think we will see a beautiful transformation in the music industry soon because of...
